10/12/05 WRL ADVERTISING’S BRIDGE DESIGN TO BRING RECOGNITION TO STARK COUNTY
WRL Advertising's unique design of the new Dressler Road bridge will welcome motorists to Stark County and promote Canton’s most noted attraction—the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Dave Motts of the Pro Football Hall of Fame considers this construction project to be a
once in a lifetime opportunity for the community to gain recognition. When it came to creating the design for the bridge, Motts turned to Dave Rausch and the creative team at WRL Advertising. The agency has been providing the Hall of Fame with design and graphics services for over 30 years.
Tim Hertel, Internet Director at WRL Advertising, created the bridge’s aesthetic design. The bridge will feature the words “Stark County, Home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame,” along with intricate concrete moldings, graphic outlines of football players and a
simplified version of the Pro Football Hall of Fame's logo. Throughout the last 5 years, the design has evolved as it gained approval at the local, state and federal levels. Hertel worked closely with federal regulations that dictated many aspects of the design from the color of the beams to the representation of the logo.
Motts is excited about the outcome of the design and the impact it will ultimately have on Stark County. “Stark County is known for many landmarks, but the Pro Football Hall of Fame has put Canton, Ohio on the map,” he said. “This bridge will be just one more way of solidifying the Hall of Fame’s position as a national landmark in Stark County.”
The new bridge, visible to travelers entering and exiting the Hall of Fame City, will take its place among only a handful of federally approved promotional bridges in the country. By mid-November, Canton will join the likes of Columbus, Ohio and Salt Lake City, Utah, which currently have br
idges promoting shopping centers and the Olympic Games.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame bridge construction is
a result of the ongoing effort to widen a portion of I-77 from Route 30 to Route 224. The current Dressler Road bridge was scheduled for reconstruction when former Stark County Engineer Frank Fischer approached the Hall of Fame. Fischer proposed the idea to design a bridge that would accommodate a wider underpass as well as promote one of Canton, Ohio’s most renowned landmarks. The project has been underway since 2000.
