What exactly is multimedia?
mul·ti·me·di·a
1. Of or relating to the combined use of several media
2. Computer Science. Of or relating to an application that can combine text, graphics, full-motion video, animation and sound into an integrated package.
At WRL, multimedia is more than what Webster's tells us. We are more than award-winning multimedia content creators. We are idea mechanics, project managers and technical support specialists. We do more than simply create your multimedia project in-house. We support the program in your house. If it's as simple as a presentation, we know the hardware and software to support it. If it's as complex as a CD-ROM for training, we know how to build it into your existing structure and expand upon it. Whatever the case, we are one of the area's most advanced multimedia resources.
A few examples of multimedia:
- Interactive Kiosks
- Tradeshow CD-ROM handouts
- Training (Web and CD-ROM based)
- Product Demos/Intros
- High-Impact Presentations
- Demonstrative animation
- Pre-visualization
- Effective communication

Why does multimedia work?
Multimedia discs can provide far more than traditional print catalogs or brochures. Full motion video, Internet links and sound can bring your product or service to life for a potential client. Discs give you a way to convey information that would be nearly impossible with traditional methods. Discs can also give you the ability to collect user data and perform database tracking and automatic reporting.
The use of multimedia discs can increase your rate of response by 60% when compared to traditional advertising.
Then there's the flexibility of the CD-ROM. When you have a huge print job, the information remains static until your next print run. Not so with discs. As a dynamic medium, the disc is updatable from the web or randomly accessed through the CD itself. This keeps your information fresh and up-to-date.
A common misconception is that a multimedia CD-ROM is expensive to update. Not so. You can produce them as you need them. Pre-printing your art or logo on a blank CD-ROM enables you to burn discs on demand. The result is truly dynamic content as the program can read your update from an easily inserted simple text document.

Multimedia TechTips
Basic Video Playback Tip - Optimizing Windows Media 9
Under Tools select Options, then select Performance. Make sure the video acceleration is set to full. You should also update your video card drivers every six months. Video card manufacturers are constantly updating their software to improve quality and performance.
Basic Digital Video Tip - Don't Zoom
Got a fancy new digital camcorder but your shooting abilities leave something to be desired? One of the tricks the pros use to shoot good video is to use the zoom sparingly. When you do decide to zoom, do it slowly. This allows the viewer software to process the scene faster, improving the quality of your video.
Basic PowerPoint Tip - Keep it Simple
Try to use only one font throughout your presentation. You should also place common design elements in a consistent location throughout the presentation. These will make your presentation easier to read and process.
