Released 2009-05-04

The web department now offers a service to purchase, register and set up .tel domain names for their clients, Dennis Warner, Internet Director for Canton, Ohio based WRL Advertising announced today.

The .tel is the newest Top Level Domain (TLD), joining the ranks of.com, .net, and .org, among others. The difference between a .tel and other domains is that the owner does not need anything additional, such as a host, server, or encoding, to post information.

Conceived as a massive repository of information, the .tel is a simple listing of contact information for a business or an individual. Each .tel listing has the same basic layout, with the only change being in the information visible to the user, depending on if they are a casual visitor or have authorization to view high-level information. Owners of the .tel can determine what constitutes public or private information during the setup process, and can add keywords to their listing to help with Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

"To understand what a Dot Tel is, think of it as a business card on the Internet," Warner explained. "With one simple domain name, a business can give out the most up-to-date contact information available, with no endless reprinting of cards. Because it's dynamic, it is quick to update, without having to dispose of obsolete materials."

Warner stated that the agency has a .tel set up at http://www.wrladv.tel so businesses can see the potential applications. "WRL can buy the domain name, set up the information, and even maintain it at very affordable cost," he said. "This is just one more way that we help our clients stay on the cutting edge of web technology."
